Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, travelled to Ljubljana in Slovenia, on Wednesday 22 February 2023, for an official visit during which he met the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Robert Golob.
During this meeting, the two prime ministers reiterated the desire to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the economic field. They particularly highlighted possible cooperation in the field of European quantum communication infrastructure, particularly in terms of satellites, as well as collaboration at the level of the Luxembourg Wood Cluster and the Slovenian Industry Wood Cluster.
Current issues at European Union level were also on the agenda for the discussions. Luxembourg and Slovenia share the perception that the EU must continue to play its role in countering protectionist reflexes around the world while preserving the basic principles of the single market, which is at the heart of economic resilience and EU's open strategic autonomy. PM Bettel also hailed the constructive role played by Slovenia in the Western Balkans.
The official meeting was followed by a press conference and a lunch hosted by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia.
Xavier Bettel also had a meeting with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar. The Prime Minister and the President discussed their dedication to shared values, such as respect for the rule of law, gender equality and the fundamental rights of LGBTQI+ people.
Finally, the visit ended with a meeting between the Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly, Urška Klakočar Zupančič and a last brief meeting between the Luxembourg delegation and the members of the Parliamentary Group for Friendship with the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg.
