On Wednesday 8 February 2023, the Luxembourg Army presented a new camouflage pattern for its Protected Reconnaissance Vehicle (PRV) range.
These PRVs are from the Dingo 2 family of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and will soon be deployed in Romania as part of NATO's Enhanced Vigilance Activities (eVA) mission. A total of five revamped "Dingos" will join this mission.
At present, the PRV represents the main tactical vehicle of the Luxembourg Army.
The camouflage is made of triangular geometric shapes, in order to better respond (according to the Luxembourg Army) to the evolution of sensors and the multiplicity of theaters of operation. The Luxembourg Army has opted for the technique of covering/wrapping with weather-resistant adhesive fabric for these vehicles.
The choice of colours and affixing scheme is believed to provide flexibility for the Luxembourg Army, as it is easily adaptable to the different areas of operation. In the case of the current mission in Romania, this represents the "Central Europe" environment. The defined camouflage concept includes the following four colours: the base paint is beige (RAL 1039), complemented by olive light (RAL 6040), olive green (RAL 6003) and NATO black (RAL 9021).
The execution of the project was ensured by the logistics services department of the Luxembourg Army in close collaboration with a specialised national company. The collaboration between state and private actors made it possible to carry out this project in less than three months, from the initial expression of the need for modern camouflage and taking into account feedback from the current geopolitical situation, via the design and technical production tests, at its presentation in January 2023.
According to the Luxembourg Army, the "new look" PRVs testify to the army's "innovative" spirit and its willingness to fulfil its current and future missions "with determination and professionalism" as a united partner within the Alliance.
