Jan De Nul Group, a company specialising in dredging and marine works which has its financial headquarters in Luxembourg, has confirmed that its crew recently rescued fifteen refugees at sea.

The firm said that, during a sea journey from Turkey to Belgium, its crew on board the offshore installation vessel Simon Stevin noticed a sloop with fifteen refugees on the evening of Thursday 10 November 2022. Eight men, two women and five children had been drifting for several days on the Mediterranean Sea, some 75 km off the Algerian coast.

The crew took the refugees on board and, according to Jan De Nul, all fifteen were in good health, but weakened and hypothermic. The crew gave them food, drinks, warm clothing, a bed and blankets to recuperate. They spent the night on board and were picked up by the Algerian coastguard on the morning of Friday 11 November 2022.
