On Monday 28 February 2022, Luxembourg's Minister of Interior, Taina Bofferding, confirmed that Luxemboiurg will provide aid assistance to Ukraine through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), which allows the European Commission to coordinate the delivery of essential supplies to the Ukrainian civilian population.
Ukraine, facing a situation of war for almost a week, has made a request for assistance through the UCPM, thus appealing to the solidarity of the Member States of the European Union.
The goods requested by Ukraine are part of a preparedness strategy for all possible scenarios with regard to the Russian invasion.
In a spirit of European solidarity and taking into account the seriousness and scale of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, it is essential for Luxembourg to get involved and come to the aid of the Ukrainian population by any means possible.
Following the aforementioned request for assistance, a summary inventory of the equipment that Luxembourg could send in addition to military support was made.
Thus, the Luxembourg State is able to support Ukraine, on the one hand, by sending fire intervention equipments (fire hoses, fire pumps, etc.) and, on the other hand, by sending medico-technical equipment and various drugs (anaesthetics, antibiotics, etc.).
The Department of Civil Security of the Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) and the Ministry of Health, coordinates the request for assistance and the related response through the 112, direct contact of the Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC), the system through which requests for assistance via the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism are submitted.
