Luxembourg's Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Franz Fayot, undertook a working visit to Benin in western Africa this week (from 8 to 10 February 2022).

The objective of this working visit was to explore opportunities for establishing development cooperation relations between Luxembourg and Benin. To this end, Minister Fayot met with the following five Beninese ministers: Véronique Tognifodé, Minister of Social Affairs and Microfinance; Aurélie Adam Soulé, Minister of Digital Economy and Digitalisation; Raphaël D. Akotegnon, Minister of Decentralisation and Local Governance; José Didier Tonato, Minister of the Living Environment and Sustainable Development; Kouaro Yves Chabi, Minister of Secondary Education, Technical and Vocational Training.

The Beninese ministers presented their second Government Action Programme, aimed at accelerating social development.

The working visit continued with a meeting between Minister Fayot and Aurélien Agbenonci, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Benin, which concluded with the signing of a letter of understanding aimed at fulfilling the mutual desire of weaving closer ties between Benin and Luxembourg.

On the sidelines of his visit, Minister Fayot also met the representative of the European Union (EU) to Benin, as well as the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations (UN) in Benin.
