Luxembourg's Ministry of Finance has announced that the Grand Duchy and Rwanda signed their very first tax treaty yesterday.

On Wednesday 29 September 2021, Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Pierre Gramegna, signed a tax treaty with the Ambassador of Rwanda in Luxembourg, Dieudonné Rugambwa Sebashongore. This is the first such convention between the two countries.

The objective of this tax treaty is to promote economic relations between Luxembourg and Rwanda by eliminating double taxation. It also contains the standards resulting from the work on the BEPS project of the OECD and thus taking into account the commitments made by Luxembourg at the international level.

Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna commented: “I welcome the signing of this first tax treaty between our two countries, which will lay the foundations for further collaboration between the Grand Duchy and the Republic of Rwanda. This agreement will also make it possible to complete and improve Luxembourg's conventional network with tax treaties that comply with the latest standards in terms of tax transparency and the fight against tax evasion".
