At the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, undertook a working visit to Kathmandu in Nepal on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
As part of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Luxembourg and Nepal, Jean Asselborn yesterday had a meeting followed by a working lunch with Nepal's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali. On this occasion, they addressed in depth the excellent bilateral relations that exist between the two countries. These are considered especially strong in the field of development cooperation with many Luxembourg NGOs active throughout Nepal. They also examined potential areas of cooperation, such as tourism and communication.
In addition, Ministers Jean Asselborn and Pradeep Kumar Gyawali addressed relations between the European Union and Nepal, as well as the issues of education, peace and stability. They also discussed connectivity in Asia, as well as the latest regional and international developments.
Finally, Jean Asselborn welcomed guests at a reception in Kathmandu, organised by Luxembourg's Ambassador to India, Nepal and Sri Lanka Jean Claude Kugener, and in the presence of representatives of the Nepalese government and the diplomatic corps accredited to Nepal, to celebrate the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975.
On Tuesday, the second and last day of his working visit, Jean Asselborn discussed bilateral relations with Nepal's Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli.
