Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Pierre Gramegna, will travel to Asia to attend a series of meetings with financial actors from 16 to 24 January 2016.
Minister Gramegna will be in Beijing on 16 and 17 January 2016 to attend the inaugural meetings of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on behalf of the Grand Duchy, which was the first country outside of Asia to accede to this new international institution.
The AIIB is a multilateral development bank (MDB) which aims to focus on the development of infrastructure and other productive sectors in Asia, including energy and power; transportation and telecommunication; rural infrastructure and agriculture development; water supply and sanitation; environmental protection; urban development and logistics.
On 18 Januray 2016, Luxembourg's Finance Minister will interven as a speaker at the plenary session of the prestigious 'Asian Financial Forum' (AFF) in Hong Kong, where he will be conducting meetings with high-level political and economic representatives with a view to strengthening ties between Luxembourg and Hong Kong. He will meet with the Chief Executive CY Leung and Minister of Finance John Tsang.
Pierre Gramegna will then travel to Tokyo, where he will hold a working meeting with Taro Aso, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, as a follow-up to the official visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Luxembourg on 1 December 2015.
On 22 January 2016, Minister Gramegna is due to attend a 'FinTech' seminar organised by Luxembourg for Finance for industry professionals in Tokyo. The following day the Minister will be in Kyoto to offer his presence at the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Universities of Luxembourg and of Kyoto.
