The Luxembourg Society in Britain, which comprises both Luxembourg and British members, will be participating in an event at the Europe House (EU Delegation’s Gallery) in London for a “Luxembourg Taster Class” with the EU Delegation on 16 December 2015 from 18:15.
The format of the evening will be one of linguistic and cultural discovery devoted to Luxembourg, the only Grand Duchy in the world! The event is hosted by the European Commission Representation in the UK and supported by the Embassy of Luxembourg in London as one of a range of events marking Luxembourg’s Presidency of the EU Council.
This free event will open at 18:15 with a presentation by Dr Kristine Horner, Reader of Luxembourg Studies at Sheffield University, who will put the language into context both historically and culturally. There will then be a taster class in Luxembourgish that will equip attendees with enough linguistic knowledge to negotiate a night out in Luxembourg City or a trip to the vineyards along the Moselle. To help the learning process run smoothly, attendees will be offered a glass of wine and some nibbles, generously supplied by the Luxembourg Embassy. No prior knowledge of the language is required.
The event is free but numbers are limited and registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve your place, please email: comm-lon-reception@ec.europa.eu, putting ‘Luxembourgish taster class 16 December’ in the subject line. You will receive an email confirming your place. If you have registered and cannot attend, please email the same address promptly so that the organisers can offer your place to others.
Europe House is located at 32 Smith Square, London SW1P 3EU.
