Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, is in Luanda today on behalf of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, for the second ministerial meeting between the European Union and the Republic of Angola.
As part of the cooperation agreement entitled 'EU-Angola Joint Way Forward', the discussions will aim to strengthen the political dialogue and bilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest in the relationship between the two regions.
Talks with the Angolan authorities will focus on several areas, including peace and security, economic growth and sustainable development, good governance and human rights, energy, transport, environment, science and technology and education.
The meeting will also allow ministers to address current regional issues by examining, in particular, the situation in the Great Lakes region, where animosity between national leaders is growing; the Kimberly Process, an initiative to prevent the continued exploitative circulation of blood diamonds; as well as maritime security issues.
