On 27 and 28 October 2015, the international conference 'Feeding the Plant, Feeding it Healthy' took place as part of the international exhibition in Milan.
Luxembourg Minister of Health Lydia Mutsch joined policy makers and nutrition experts from different nations who gathered for an exchange on food innovation and education.
The Minister intervened at a round table entitled 'Nutrition and Lifestyles: Proposal for Public Health Measures' and chaired by Italian Minister of Health Beatrice Lorenzin. To foreign delegations, Lydia Mutsch presented the national GIMB programme 'Gesond iessen, Méi bewegen' which was launched ten years ago.
In her speech, the Minister explained that the GIMB programme had begun to bear fruit at the national level through its multisectoral approach and with the willingness of various ministries involved to take action in a coherent and coordinated manner. The GIMB programme involves, amongst others, the goal of empowering citizens by offering healthy and, above all, simple choices.
"Allowing everyone to eat healthy and stay healthy, regardless of their location and social environment, remains a challenge, both nationally and globally," commented Lydia Mutsch. "If we want to promote a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle and combat malnutrition with its paradoxes (obesity in industrialised countries and food shortages in other parts of the world), we must, more than ever, intensify our collaboration internationally, adopting common health policies and opting for consistent action".
