The Ministère de l'Education Nationale, de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse today released the results of final examinations in 2015.

Results revealed 87 mentions of 'excellence'; a stable success rate in the secondary and technical education sectors; improved results in the technician training regime compared to 2014; and a total of 2,765 obtaining a degree in the Luxembourgis system at the end of June 2015, with 35 candidates receiving an international bac.

The total number of candidates who took final exams fell this year, from 3734 candidates in 2014 to 3686 in 2015. The Ministry explained that the lower number of candidates in the previous technician training scheme accounts for this decrease in students taking examinations, as the new scheme involves a final project rather than exams.

Compared to a decade earlier, the total number of graduates at the end of the June 2015 session increased by more then 700 people, from 2043 in 2005 to 2765 in 2015.

In comparison with last year's results, the pass rate in secondary education increased by 1.5% to 78.5%; the deferment rate rose by 0.8% to 14%; and the rejection rate decreased by 2.4% to 5.9%.

By contrast, this year's success rate of students of the technical scheme fell by 3.7% to 69.8% compared with 2014; deferment rate rose 1.5% to 19.8%; and rejection rate increased by 2.1% to 10.3%. For the technician training scheme, the same factors showed an increase of 3% to 69.7%; a decrease of 2.7% to 20.8%; and a reduction of 2.5% to 9.4%, respectively.

The number of students who received a mention of 'excellence', that is to say who received a result of 52 points or higher, increased by one this year, making a total of 87 students.

Girls were found to have acheived more success in the secondary education and technical secondary education system sectors than boys. No notable difference between the sexes was discerned in the technician training scheme sector.

In addition to the 2,765 candidates receiving a Luxembourgish diploma, 35 students from public schools received an International Baccalaureate. The IB diploma is recognised by Luxembourg law as equivalent to graduation from high school, and is offered in French by the Lycée Technique du Centre and in English at the Athénée.
