The Luxembourg Chronicle, in collaboration with the Union Luxembourgeoise de Patinage (ULP) and the Club Hiversport-Luxembourg Patinage, is offering 2x2 FREE tickets to the annual Coupe du Printemps ice skating competition that will take place from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 March 2017 at the Ice Rink in Kockelscheuer.
See below on how to enter the competition.
The Coupe du Printemps brings together around one hundred ice skaters from around the world in Kockelscheuer to compete in Novice to Senior categories for their chance at a position on the winner's podium in the international Figure Skating competition.
The skaters will be coming from global, European and national backgrounds; Mara Wagner and Sophia Kammann (Luxemburgish skater living in the USA) in Junior category, Gemma Marshall in Advanced Novice category and Ysaline Hibon, Tereza Kravalova, Maely Lortilloir and Anna State in Basic Novice A category. Fleur Maxwell, injured, won’t be present this year.
Again this year, some big names of figure skating are expected, such as Jorik Hendrickx, current champion of the Coupe and 4th place at the European Championships this year, Chafik Besseghier, French champion 2016, and Rika Hongo and Takahito Mura, both winners of various international competitions these past few years.
However, it is particularly the participation of one of the greatest figure skating star, Shoma Uno, which will set the ice on fire. The skater, bronze medalist on the last two Grand Prix and 3rd in the ISU world ranking, will skate on the Luxemburgish ice rink before going to the World Championships in Helsinki at the beginning of April. Shoma is such a super star in his country that Japanese fans are planning to come to Luxembourg to support him. Next to these figure skating stars, young promising skaters will come to Luxembourg to show their potential.
The competition will close with a Gala from 18:00 on Sunday 12 March 2016, which in turn will be followed by a cocktail on the ice, during which all competitors, sponsors, media and figure skating enthusiasts will be able to mix and mingle. Sunday evening will represent an opportunity for both Luxembourgish and foreign skaters to demonstrate their talents in a free programme and celebrate the three days of competition. A cocktail on ice will follow the show, where the public could put their skates on. Skates hire will be available and drinks are complementary.
The competition costs €10 per day, with under 12s provided free entry, whilst the Gala costs €20 for age 13s and over, €10 for children aged 4-12 and free for under 3s. Tickets will be on sale on the day of the competition and online at www.CDP2017.com
