Details:  Taking a look at what are the mainsprings of today's "national novel"? Who are the promoters? And above all, what is the place of the historian's discourse in this debate, which ultimately takes little account of his expertise, Nicolas Offenstadtest will give his thoughts.

In the 1990s, the expression "national novel" sanctioned the taking of distance with a certain way of making history that had developed in the 19th century and aimed at founding the national identity rooted in a mythified past. Today, recent debates about the so-called "memorial" laws show that history remains an ideological and political issue that goes far beyond the academic and academic sphere.
