The BRILL group (British Immigrants Living in Luxembourg) is holding its first meeting on 14 November from 18:00, at the  Centre Jean Paul XXIII (52 rue Jules Wilhem, L-2728 Luxembourg-Weimershof).

The meeting will bring together UK nationals affected by Brexit, to share their concerns for the future and what they think can/should be done to reduce the impact of Brexit on their lives and livelihoods.

Doors open 18:00 for registration, snacks and drinks. The meeting starts at 19:00 and will run to approximately 22:00.

Around a hundred UK citizens have already registered to attend this event; more spaces are still available.

UK Ambassador, John Marshall, will give the opening speech.

BRILL will also be releasing the results of a survey carried out amongst members in September on their concerns around Brexit and their intentions to stay in Luxembourg once the UK leaves the EU.

Key facts and figures from the survey (circa 300 replies)

• 65% of respondents have lived in Luxembourg for 10 years or more;
• The UK population in Luxembourg is highly educated – over 70% of respondents hold either a first degree, a Masters or a PhD;
• 70% own property in the Grand Duchy;
• Over 80% hold UK citizenship only. Less than 5% currently hold Luxembourgish citizenship;
• Over 80% of respondents would like to stay in Luxembourg after Brexit;
• 70% are intending to start Luxembourgish classes, or have started already. Over 20% speak Luxembourgish;
• 70% of respondents are intending to apply for Luxembourgish citizenship in the next three years.

About BRILL

BRILL is a Facebook and email group of UK nationals living and/or working in Luxembourg. The group was created in July 2016 following the vote to leave the EU in the UK referendum on 23 June 2016. Within 24 hours the group had over 500 members and now has almost 1,000 members on Facebook and email (there are approximately 6,000 UK citizens resident in Luxembourg). The group is coordinated by a small team of volunteers.
