Details: The New World Theatre Club (NWTC) has announced an audition Call for its forthcoming publication of The Pillowman, on Saturday 30 April 2016 at 14:00 at the Altrimenti (Centre Convict, 5 avenue Marie-Thérèse, L–2132 Luxembourg).

The Pillowman is a 3 Act play by Martin McDonagh (running time about 2 hours, with an interval). Katurian, a writer of short stories which often depict violence against children, has been arrested by two detectives, Ariel and Tupolski, because some of his stories resemble recent child murders. When he hears that his brother Michal has confessed to the murders and implicated Katurian, he resigns himself to his execution but attempts to save his stories from destruction. The play includes both narrations and re-enactments of several of Katurian's stories, most notably the autobiographical "The Writer and the Writer's Brother", which tells how Katurian developed his disturbed imagination.

Although not obvious from the above description, the play unfolds through comic and tragic moments and is filled with lots of humour (albeit a bit on the dark side). It is through this humour that the playwright captures the humanity of the situation. Storytelling is the backbone of this production and through the rehearsal process thze NWTC will explore the most exciting methods, both vocally and physically, of telling the story.

- Girl/Boy - Female/Male, playing age: 15 to 20

All auditionees will need to be present at 14:00 and will be required for up to 3 hours. As the play depends strongly on ensemble work, the auditions will take the form of a workshop involving all auditionees and for which no preparation need be done beforehand and no “audition pieces” will be required. Please wear comfortable clothes and trainers / soft shoes.

Performances will be in the Mierscher Kulturhaus – Mersch from 5 - 9 October 2016. There will be a 14-16 week rehearsal period starting from mid-May with 2 to 3 rehearsals a week and running throughout the summer holidays depending on the actors' / crews’ availability.
