Details: Anne Brasseur to Address TIGFI on Transparency and Integrity in Politics

The Institute for Global Financial Integrity (TIGFI) is organising its 44th Finance Lunch event on Tuesday 1 December 2015 from 18:30 at the Cercle Munster in Luxembourg-Grund.

Anne Brasseur, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, will speak on the topic of Transparency and Integrity in Politics.

Ms Brasseur was elected president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in January 2014. She was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly from 1993 to 1999, and then again since 2004. She was president of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) from 2009 to 2014 and president of the Committee on Culture, Science and Education from 2008 to 2010.

She has been a rapporteur for 15 reports, including on "The religious dimension of intercultural dialogue", "Political transition in Tunisia", "Fight against racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, and intolerance" and "Protection and reinforcement of the human rights of refugees and asylum-seekers in Europe".

In Luxembourg, she was a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1979 to 1999 and then again from 2004. She was minister of education and sport from 1999 to 2004, deputy-mayor of the city of Luxembourg from 1982 to 1999 and from 2005 to 2009, and she was municipal councillor of the city of Luxembourg from 1976 to 1981.

Her international mandates include member of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF) since 2004, member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Western European Union (WEU) from 2004 to 2009 and member of the North Atlantic Parliamentary Assembly from 1979 to 1993.

Anne Brasseur was born in Luxembourg on 19 May 1950. She attended the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen and the University of Mannheim, and has a BA in psychology. She also attended Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Program for Senior Managers in Government.
