Details: On 23 September 2015, as part of the International Year of Soils, the renowned microbiologist couple Lydia and Claude Bourguignon will be at l'Athénée in Luxembourg for a public conference concerning the essential role of soils in the maintenance of biodiversity and guarantee of food.
The pair have conducted extensive research into the topic, with statistic studies based on over 6000 analyses of soil in Europe and around the world over the last 25 years. Their subsequent theories on quality criteria is now enshrined in the UN decision to declare 2015 the 'International Year of Soil'. The increased pressure exerted by the growth and development of Man on earth poses multiple threats to soils, including erosion, loss of organic matter, acidification and waterproofing.
