There is a certain thrill to meeting a band in an intimate club... It's always been there under the New Jersey grit, but this propulsive American four-piece fully unleashes its inner Who on its fifth studio album, Get Hurt. The band have spent their career to date being compared to their fellow New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen, but singer-guitarist Brian Fallon sounds exactly like the '73 Roger Daltrey, with the cutting, lyric awareness of Pete Townshend. Made with Arctic Monkeys producer Mike Crossey, Get Hurt is a fresh, anthemic striving – further from E Street, driven by epic metal guitars. The Gaslight Anthem are an immensely thrilling live experience.
