Details: The 5th annual Brazilian Film Festival in Luxembourg will be held between 12 - 22 November 2014, with screenings at Utopolis Kirchberg, Ciné Utopia, the Cinémathèque, Ciné Starlight (in Dudelange) and Ciné Le Paris (Bettembourg).
The programme includes 5 women-themed films, 2 animated feature films.

- Wed 12 Nov @ 19:30 @ Utopolis Kirchberg (Opening Night): Brazilian Western (René Sampaio) - A story of love, hate and revenge, loosely inspired by Renato Russo song “Faroeste Caboclo”. English subtitles.
- Thu 13 Nov @ 20:30 @ Cinémathèque «Brésil au Féminin»: Reaching For The Moon (Bruno Barreto) - A chronicle of the tragic love affair between American poet Elizabeth Bishop and Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares. The cinematography of this enchanted environment of a mid 50s Rio de Janeiro is overwhelming. English version.
- Fri 14 Nov @ 21:15 @ Ciné Utopia, incl. Q&A with the director: City of God 10 - Years Later (Cavi Borges) - Ten years after the release of Fernando Meirelles´s Oscar-nominated City of God, a new documentary explores the impact the film had on the lives of the actors as well as in the community. French subtitles. The evening’s proceeds will go to Fondation Meninos e Meninas de Rua, an NGO that helps street children in Brazil.
- Sun 16 Nov @ 16:00 @ Ciné Starlight, incl. Q&A with the director: The Boy and the World (Alê Abreu) - An extraordinary animated feature that portrays issues of the modern world through the eyes of a child. A family film. Dialogue free.
- Mon 17 Nov @ 18:30 @ Cinémathèque «Brésil au Féminin»: Elena (Petra Costa) - An intimate and poetic sharing of the story of the director’s older sister Elena, a young Brazilian woman who moved to New York to become a star, leaving behind seven-year-old Petra. French subtitles.
- Tue 18 Nov @ 20:30 @ Cinémathèque «Brésil au Féminin»: The Silver Cliff (Karim Aïnouz) - Inspired by the Chico Buarque song “Olhos nos Olhos”. Violeta, a young dentist, gets a cruel phone message - her husband has left her. Now, her world is turned upside down. French subtitles.
- Wed 19 Nov @ 18:30 @ Cinémathèque «Brésil au Féminin»: The Hyperwomen (Takumã Kuikuro) - Deep in the jungle of Mato Grosso, on the upper course of the Xingu, this sparkling documentary follows preparations for a Jamurikumalu ritual: a festival of singing and dancing that is only performed by women. Kuikuru language with English subtitles.
- Thu 20 Nov @ 20:00 @ Ciné le Paris «Brésil au Féminin», Free entrance: The House of Sand (Andrucha Waddington) - Aurea’s saga starts in 1910, when, in pursuing a dream she never shared, she arrives in a caravan at a labyrinth of sand in Maranhao, northern Brazil. Her husband, Vasco, believes this land to be prosperous and she is condemned to a life in this barren place. Pregnant and dissatisfied with her destiny, she tries everything to find a way out. French subtitles.
- Fri 21 Nov @ 19:00 @ Ciné Utopia: Between Valleys (Philippe Barcinsky) - An emotional, gripping story, and a metaphor of loss and restoration, about garbage and recycling. Vicente is an economist who leads a normal life at home and at work until one loss after another leads him on an erratic journey towards alienation. A story that deals with man’s fragility and the capacity to recreate oneself. English subtitles.
- Sat 22 Nov @ 19:30 @ Ciné Starlight, Closing night followed by a cocktail with the audience: Rio 2096: A Story of Love and Fury (Luiz Bolognesi). An animated feature which illustrates the love between Janaina and an Indian warrior. For over six centuries, the couple´s story flourishes, passing through four phases of Brazil´s history: colonisation, slavery, the military regime and the future, in 2096, when a war over water takes place in Rio de Janeiro. French Subtitles.
