Details: Girls in Tech has announced their active participation to the very successful second edition of EU Code Week will take place from 11-17 October 201, with an event on Thursday 9 October from 18:00 - 20:00 at The Impactory (29 Boulevard Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, L-1331 Luxembourg).
All over Europe, thousands of children, students, parents, teachers, entrepreneurs and policy makers will come together to participate in mass events and workshops to learn programming and related skills. So far over 1,000 events have been already planned.
Marina THIRIET, local managing director of Girls in Tech Luxembourg is one the two EU CODE WEEK ambassadors in Luxembourg and was involved in the initiative from the early days last year. She has just returned from Brussels where she met fellow other EU member state ambassadors. Marina's message to the Girls in Tech community is: "It never such an exiting time for coding and digital literacy. EU CODE WEEK is the perfect occasion to gain new skills which will allow you to be more creative and confident with technology".
EU Code Week is a grassroots initiative by young advisors to Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the EU Commission, and has attracted the support of coding and education movements like CoderDojo and RailsGirls and of major tech and IT companies. This is directly related to the work done by Grand Coalition for Digital Job and is directly related to the pledge Girls in Tech Luxembourg has made.
The idea is to make coding more visible, to demystify these skills, and to bring motivated people together to learn. Everyone who participates in a coding activity is encouraged to tell others about their experience and inspire others!
Following the success of Rails Girls, a group of young women will continue learning the art of website design, using Ruby on Rails. Together, they will develop a project to support women entrepreneurs. A group of girls are working on a very cool project to support women entrepreneurs.
Do you want to learn how to develop your own site or app? Join in to discover the project.
In this session they will:
– Introduce the project and start brainstorming on the features to plan web development.
– Get an introduction to GitHub repo.
– Answer questions on the project for those who are interested to join for the long term (they meet every 2 weeks).
No previous experience required, just enthusiasm and willingness to learn. If you are interested to participate, please e-mail: hello@theimpactory.com
