Details: The Fondation Follereau Luxembourg (FFL) is organising an event entitled The Fight for Freedom on 21 January 2014 at 18:30 at the Private school Fieldgen (21 rue d’Anvers, L-1130 Luxembourg).
The event will take the form of a conference with the inspiring bestseller author Mende Nazer talking on the topic of child trafficking. Since 2011, the FFL is supporting a project against child trafficking in Benin and is very proud to welcome this well-known author to Luxembourg to discuss this topic.
Mende Nazer is a writer and former slave from Sudan. She is the author of the autobiography Slave. At the age of 12, Mende was kidnaped by robbers from her village in the Nuba Mountains in Central Sudan and was sold to a couple in Khartoum. She had to work day and night with beatings, humiliation and bullying by Rahab, her slave owner. Seven years later, she was sent to London to serve Rahab’s sister, the wife of a diplomat at the Sudan embassy. Weakened, the young woman found the help to escape… With the help of journalist and Sudan expert Damien Lewis who she met shortly after her escape, she wrote her autobiography in 2002 entitled Slave. The book became a bestseller.
The event will be held in English and places are limited.
