Details: The English folk/punk singer-songwriter Frank Turner’s meteoric rise continues this year as he recently released his fifth studio album “Tape Deck Heart”.
Accordign to Rockhal, this new production is totally the kind of record they have been expecting from the English punk-poet. After his overwhelming performance as opening act for the Dropkick Murphys this year, Frank Turner will return to the Rockhal on 21 September 2013 at 20:30 (doors open 20:00) with his band The Sleeping Souls. Support by Lucero.
Million Dead singer turned folk-punk singer-songwriter Frank Turner has already achieved cult status. Picking up his solo career where former band left off in 2005, Turner has since released numerous albums. He combines rock with poetry, is juxtaposing gorgeous melodies and has an impressive stage presence.
His latest record, Tape Deck Heart is a rich and melodic set of folk/punk tunes dealing with Turner's usual themes of heartache, hope, redemption and the saving grace of rock and roll. At its core, it is the kind of record we’ve all always wanted Frank Turner to make. He’s unafraid to rock, but also confident enough in his songs to display astounding amounts of fragility and human weakness in his lyrics. Now if only the rest of the world would listen and take its cues from him, we’d be set for life. The album is light on traditional folk elements
Turner’s accompanied by his usual backing musicians, The Sleeping Souls (Ben Lloyd—electric guitar, mandolin, vocals; Tarrant Anderson—bass guitar; Matt Nasir—piano, organ, keyboards, string arrangements, vocals; and Nigel Powell—drums, percussion, mandolin, vocals).
Despite Turner’s punk politics and pleas laden with heartache, he knows the guitar in his hand is more than a weapon against fascism. He explicitly compares Shakespeare’s lover Romeo with the sexual explorer and lead singer of the rock group Kiss on “Wherefore Art Thou Gene Simmons”.
With a handful of catchy folk, country, punk songs and enough charm and charisma to win over any crowd, be prepared for a promising concert, as Frank Turner will be playing on 21 September 2013 at the Rockhal. Expect great things…
