Cercle Cité is continuing its series of "Screenings on Inclusion" with a screening of Allegra Oxborough's A Blue Morning on Wednesday 18 September 2024 at 18:00.
This series comprises screenings of short films and artists' films which address in a "philosophical" and "original" way different aspects of the question of inclusion, accessibility, integration and discrimination. Subjects include the issues of migration and feminism, the quest for (artistic) identity, the rights of people with special needs, the rights of people belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community and the challenges of parenthood.
A Blue Morning
The verdant landscapes of summer in Minneapolis set the scene for this elliptical, single-day docudrama, featuring a group of artists in their 30s grappling with the realities of work and parenthood.
Morning sunlight streams through the windows of an elementary school, where Jacob is mopping the floor. Viewers follow him home and meet his wife and son. Dinner guests arrive, and tension builds around the table as they discuss the incompatibility of being both an artist and a parent.
In the tradition of ethnographic film, the intimacy of A Blue Morning gently gives way to the sometimes painful and sometimes pleasurable human conditions. A hybrid of narrative and documentary, the film tenderly captures the tensions between being an artist and becoming an adult.
The film (in English) lasts 24 minutes. The screening will be followed by a 30-minute discussion with the artist. Entry is free; no registration required.
