Details:
Megaphone, a new intersectional alliance in Luxembourg, will organise a “Take Back the Night March” on Tuesday 30 April 2024, starting at the Kinnekswiss in Luxembourg-Ville and ending with a vigil at Casino Luxembourg, from 19:00 to 21:00.
Megaphone is currently made up of Centre LGBTIQ+ CIGALE, PRIZMA (the uni.lu LGBT+ students' association), Lëtz Rise Up, pipapo, Rise for Climate, Gebeess Houeren, Déi Aner, Richtung22 and various individuals,
The organisers emphasised: “[...] we shouldn't just be marching for feminist justice once a year! We need more community, more safe spaces, and more rituals for our liberation. This is just a start. [...] Us FLINTA*s (women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people) still constantly have to worry [about] what will happen if we leave our drink unattended at a bar, what will happen when we walk home alone at night, what will happen when we wear certain clothes. Beyond that, we face the biggest threat of violence at home, from our own partners and family, and we are not even safe at work.”
It will be an evening centred around intersectional resistance, empowerment and solidarity: the march will take participants from the Kinnekswiss to Casino Luxembourg. At Casino Luxembourg, a vigil will be held to mourn and honour those FLINTA individuals who were harmed, abducted or killed.
There will be music, speeches and an open mic for anyone who would like to share anything. Besides, the House of Saint Trinity (from Nancy) will offer a drag performance on the occasion.
