The 28th Walfer Bicherdeeg (Walferdange Book Days) 2023, the big event for book-lovers, is being held on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 November 2023 with the theme this year of "Tell the world, read the world", a common thread that will allow us to understand the new perspectives that literature takes on today's challenges.

The festivities will begin on Thursday 16 November with the opening ceremony at the Centre Prince Henri in the presence of the guest of honour, Misch Strotz: the CEO of Neon Marketing will talk about the “dream of artificial intelligence” and give his opinion and vision of things. The Lëtzebuerger Buchpräis will then be awarded by the Federation of Luxembourg Publishers. During the weekend, readings, shows, exhibitions and concerts are being organised throughout the venue In total, 175 exhibitors will be present this year. Publishing houses and authors will present their new publications. The second-hand book market will allow you to unearth many treasures. Young readers will have the pleasure of diving into a number of imaginary worlds thanks to “Books for Kids”.

A 100% Green Event

The municipality attaches great importance to the sustainability of the event, and it is bearing fruit: in 2023, the Bicherdeeg will receive the “Green Events” logo, awarded by SuperDrécksKëscht in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment. The commitment will focus in particular on the great attention given to the circular economy, the supply of the site with electricity from renewable energies, the sorting of all waste or the preference shown for organic and local products.

With this in mind, visitors are invited to travel to the Book Days using public transport. The bus and train network is very well served, with frequent connections to the capital.

Walfer sessions. Literature meets music.

After its success during the previous edition, the outdoor stage is once again an essential place for Book Days. This is where the theme of the year comes to life. The two authors from the Walferdange authors' residence, Florence Sunnen and Maxime Weber, will perform four times. They will surprise with texts written especially for Book Days. Bartleby Delicate will bring their texts to life on stage by accompanying them musically with background music designed for the occasion. The Walferdange authors’ residence, in collaboration with Les Cahiers luxembourgeois, has existed for six years now. The two contributions can be discovered in print in the November issue of the prestigious literary review.
