Esch2022 - European Capital of Culture and the Institut Pierre Werner (IPW) are organising a debate called "Does Europe Have a Future?" at the Visitor Centre/Halle des Poches à Fonte in Esch-Belval on Wednesday 1 February 2023 at 19:30.

Organised as part of the "Pure Europe" exhibition, currently on display at the Möllerei in Esch-Belval, this debate will bring together Rokhaya Diallo, Jagoda Marinić and Ivan Krastev to discuss the causes of the current situation in Europe and possible future scenarios.

As the organisers noted, young adults in Europe have experienced many crises since birth: the 2008 financial crisis and the European debt crisis, but also an identity crisis when an increase in the number of refugees in summer 2015 revealed internal contradictions in Europe. The organisers added that the political changes of this period still have an impact on current debates: today, war is once again present on the continent. Rising inequality and climate change are putting additional pressure on our societies, and despite growing concern, policy solutions seem inadequate for some of the population.

This round table discussion is an opportunity to debate such issues with three Europeans: Rokhaya Diallo, an award-winning journalist, author and filmmaker from France; Jagoda Marinić, a prize-winning author and essayist from Germany; Ivan Krastev, a political scientist from Bulgaria, president of the Centre for Liberal Strategies in Sofia and member of the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna.

The multilingual debate (held in French, German and English with simultaneous translation) will be moderated by Brussels-based journalist Diego Velazquez.

This event is organised by Esch2022, in cooperation with IPW.
