On Thursday 22 October 2026, Luxembourg-based wine and spirits importer Caves Wengler SA announced that Charline Wengler had taken over as CEO of the family business, founded in Rosport in 1897, representing the fifth generation of the family to lead the company.
According to the company, Charline Wengler has held the position since June 2026, following a carefully prepared transition as Caves Wengler approaches its 130th anniversary. Gérard Wengler remains Chairman of the Board of Directors and continues to be involved in an advisory, representative and relationship role.
Reflecting on the company's history, Caves Wengler stated: "This spirit has run through every generation. After the Second World War, Albert Wengler and his brothers Paul and Edmond carried the family business forward, and in the early 1960s they made a decisive shift: the company moved from production to import and distribution. Gérard Wengler then drove this development for several decades, shaping the house through his gift for relationships, his epicurean approach and his knowledge of producers. Each generation has thus left its mark on Wengler, while preserving the values and ties that define its identity."
Charline Wengler joined the company in 2018 as marketing manager, becoming marketing director as the team grew. She has since shaped the company's brand identity and developed its cultural platforms, including SOIF magazine. As CEO (administratrice déléguée), she retains responsibility for sales and marketing.
Charline Wengler commented: "For me, tradition isn’t a burden, it’s our foundation. My role isn’t to reinvent everything, but to give the house the organisation and ambition it needs to take what it does best even further: sharing good things with the right people, at the right moment." She added: "I do this as part of a lean, complementary leadership team, with the same passion, curiosity and respect for our history that have driven us since 1897."
The company outlined several priorities for the coming years, including strengthening its role as a partner to major international houses and independent estates, developing wine and spirits education and experiences through Wengler Education, and responding to changing consumer expectations with a range of non-alcoholic and functional drinks. Wengler Education will offer WSET courses, tastings and experiences for private and corporate clients.
Gérard Wengler said: "A business isn’t handed over overnight. What you pass on is trust, relationships and a certain way of doing things. Charline has been following this path for years, with dedication and sensitivity. I’m very proud of her and will continue to support her."
As part of its future plans, Caves Wengler also announced the upcoming opening of its first permanent location in Luxembourg City, at 14 Rue Notre-Dame. The space will offer a selection of wines and spirits, tastings, private dinners and Wengler Education courses. The opening date will be announced separately in the coming weeks.
Caves Wengler, based in Rosport, is an importer of wines, spirits, beers and non-alcoholic drinks in Luxembourg. Founded in 1897, the family business currently employs more than 60 people. It is also the exclusive importer for Diageo and Moët Hennessy in Luxembourg.
