With schools closed for at least the next fortnight, the Luxembourg government has implemented several measures to allow parents to take care of their children.
As part of the government's measures to limit the spread of coronavirus, the competent services have developed a specific form for parents who need to take additional paid family leave in order to take care of their children during this period.
According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Social Security, family leave may be taken by the parent of a child under the age of 13 if there are no other childcare options. Indeed, only people who cannot afford to do otherwise are advised to use this exceptional measure.
If necessary, parents can alternate family leave, in which case, each parent must submit a completed form. If both parents work and one exercises a strategically important activity within the framework of the current situation (e.g. health professionals), it is recommended that the other parent opts for family leave.
The duration of this measure is fixed by the Luxembourg government.
Procedure
Parents requiring family leave must inform their employer as soon as possible, either orally or in writing. The parent must then complete and sign the specific form before sending it to the National Health Fund (CNS) as well as to their employer.
The form must be sent to the CNS by post at the following address:
CNS

The form is available from the following websites: cns.lu ; guichet.lu ; gouvernement.lu.
