Luxembourg's Ministry of Research and Higher Education has announced the introduction of two new Higher Technician Certificates (Brevet de technicien supérieur - BTS) from the start of the 2024/25 school year.

The ministry recently accredited two new BTS for the period from 15 September 2024 to 14 September 2029: a BTS in "Applied Artificial Intelligence", offered at the Lycée des Arts et Métiers (LAM), and a BTS in "Production industrielle automatisée" (automated industrial production), offered at the Lycée Privé Emile Metz (LPEM).

Like all BTS training courses, the newly accredited courses are higher education courses for professional purposes, combining theoretical teaching and practical internships in companies. The studies, lasting two years in principle, are organised in modules and validated in ECTS credits. They lead to a national higher education diploma.

The ministry added that the study programmes are developed in close collaboration between the respective secondary schools and the professional circles concerned.

The BTS in "Applied Artificial Intelligence" is a practical training course focused on the configuration, automation, maintenance and interfacing of an artificial intelligence (AI) system. In addition, it offers a solid foundation in programming and data processing through the application of methods for training and learning AI models. Further information: https://ai.btshub.lu.

The BTS in "Production industrielle automatisée" will train students to work in the areas of the installation, commissioning and maintenance of complex automated installations. Graduates will obtain skills in automation (electrotechnics, piloting, sensor adjustment and robotics), mechanical engineering (CAD, technology, pneumatics, hydraulics, etc.) and digital sciences (mathematics and computer science). Alongside these two training courses, the accreditation of three other BTS courses was renewed.
