The University of Luxembourg (Uni.lu) is hosting its annual Welcome Day for new students today, Thursday 16 September 2021, on its Belval campus.
Every year, the University of Luxembourg organises a Welcome Day to offer new students the opportunity to discover their campus and to help them assimilate into their new environment.
The start of the academic year 2021-22 is unlike any other. The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly challenged the way in which we work, teach and interact with each other. The University of Luxembourg is thus trying to achieve the right balance between providing an enriching study experience while protecting the health and safety of staff and students.
This year's Welcome Day is taking place as a CovidCheck event, with only the essential stands present on site during the day itself. A spokeswoman for the University of Luxembourg told Chronicle.lu that around 950 students attended this year, with capacity limited to a maximum of 1,000 people (including staff members).
However, new students will also have the opportunity to meet various other services and institutions on campus next week (Welcome Week, 20 to 23 September 2021) during a specified time frame.
Between 09:00 and 16:00 on Thursday, students will have the opportunity to get vaccinated on site withour prior appointment.
Guided campus tours, organised by the Historic.UL student association, are running between 10:00 and 14:00. Prior registration is mandatory.
Whilst student registrations are open until October, the University of Luxembourg estimates that, based on the applications received, around 2,000 new students will be joining the higher education institution in the 2021-22 academic year. The full student number is set to be close to 6,700 students. Both figures are similar to those recorded last year.
