Thunderstorms in Montenegro disrupted the travel plans of Luxair passengers, among others, on Tuesday 24 September 2024.
As explained by Luxair, the temporary closure of Tivat Airport due to "extreme" weather conditions, led to the cancellation of its flight to Luxembourg on Tuesday.
Luxair noted that its flight from Luxembourg had to be diverted to Podgorica Airport.
In anticipation of these disruptions, Luxair's operational teams organised bus transfers to allow passengers of the Luxembourg-Tivat flight to reach Podgorica. However, the weather conditions made the only road serving the airport "impassable". Two of the four buses planned, which were set to transport 83 passengers, could not leave Tivat Airport, the airline reported.
Luxair added that it had initially planned a triangular Podgorica – Tivat – Luxembourg flight to pick up passengers stranded in Tivat. However, with weather conditions showing no signs of improvement, this stopover was not possible, forcing the aircraft to fly directly to Luxembourg.
Luxair expressed its apologies for the incovenience caused to passengers due to this "unforeseen circumstance" and assured that "all efforts were made to minimise the disruptions and provide the necessary assistance".
Luxair organised a "special flight" on Wednesday 25 September 2024 to return the remaining passengers to Luxembourg.
