On Thursday 14 June 2018, Luxembourg's Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure announced that, from 1 August 2018, young people up to 20 years of age will be entitled to free transport on buses, trains and trams throughout the Grand Duchy, without needing to show a travel card.

Secondary school students and young people under the age of 20 can currently use public transport free of charge if they have a myCard (issued by schools) or a "Jugendabo" subscription (available at the sales counters of the Mobilityitszentral).

In a spirit of administrative simplification, Luxembourg's Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructures, François Bausch, has decided to allow all young people under 20, whether a student or not, to be able to travel on national public transport without a myCard or ticket. A simple piece of identification indicating the age of less than 20 years will be sufficient in a bus, tram or train.

This measure is valid from 1 August 2018. The Ministerial Regulation was signed on 11 June 2018.

For students aged 20 and up to the age of 25, the conditions remain the same as today: they can move freely with their student myCard or youth myCard.
