An annual poll conducted by research company Skytrax has classified Luxembourg airport in seventh place within its field at the World Airport Awards.
The satisfaction of 13 million passengers of 112 different nationalities were assessed, based on nearly 40 separate standards of quality and performance, including comfort, boarding, shopping, registration and staff. In total, 550 airports were voted on by participating passengers.
In the category of airports which receive less than 5 million passengers a year, Luxembourg ranked 7th internationally - an improvement of two places from last year's poll. The airport was surpassed by only three European airports, including London City in second place which represents the most common destination taken from Luxembourg.
The airport provides 66 direct flight destinations and employs 229 people in total, welcoming almost 2.5 million passengers in 2014. Despite its small scale in comparison to other national airports, it also retained its order in the "Top 100" ranking of best international airports across all categories, placing it just behind Shanghai Pudong Airport and ahead of airports such as Geneva and even Los Angeles.
After the results were revealed, lux-Airport announced that it would continue to improve its rank through the implementation of projects aimed at improving its services and infrastructure, as well as planned developments for shops and eateries which are to be unveiled later this year.
