Luxtram SA, in the presence of François Bausch, Luxembourg's Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, Sam Tanson, alderman at the Ville de Luxembourg, as well as CAF officials, presented the first images of the trams destined for Luxembourg being manufactured in Zaragoza, Spain, at a press conference.
One year ago the exhibition of a scale model of the Luxembourg tram was inaugurated. It has allowed the general public to experience the tram in preview. More than 30,000 people visited it and were able to express their views. As part of the final design of the vehicle, most of the suggestions have been taken into account, such as grab bars, seat covers and floor coverings.
For the operation of the first section of the tram line, between Luxexpo and the Red Bridge, a total of trains will be required. Construction of the trains began in March 2016 and the first train has now been completed. Two other trains are currently in production.
Currently the equipment and systems of the first train are in the testing phase. At the beginning of 2017, the first train will be delivered to Luxembourg.
Before commercial start-up, dynamic tests will be carried out, first at the Tramsschapp site and then on the line itself. During these tests, the tram will run on its platform where all technical and safety aspects will be controlled.
