On Tuesday 22 September 2026, organisers announced that European Heritage Days will take place in Luxembourg from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October 2026, and will feature a programme of highlights combining tours, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, performances and participatory experiences focused on the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
In a press release issued by Luxembourg’s Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Ministry of State, the Chamber of Deputies and the Maison du Grand-Duc, it was announced that the 2026 edition of European Heritage Days will be held under the theme “Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reinvent”.
Following a call for projects launched by the Ministry of Culture in the spring, 33 projects proposed by municipalities, associations, public institutions and private organisers have been selected to form the programme for the 2026 edition.
As in previous years, admission to all events will be free of charge.
European Heritage Days will officially open on Friday 16 October at the Luxembourg Centre for Architecture (LUCA) in Luxembourg-Clausen, with an event hosted by the Ministry of Culture.
On Saturday 17 October, the Grand Ducal Palace, the Chamber of Deputies, the Ministry of State, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, and the Ministry of Culture will open their doors to the public from 10:00 to 16:00 (last admission). For the Chamber of Deputies and the Grand Ducal Palace, the last admission will be at 17:00.
The organisers say this simultaneous opening, accompanied by guided tours, will offer visitors a unique opportunity to discover emblematic sites of the Luxembourg state, where history and architecture intersect.
Through specially designed tours, visitors will be able to explore these exceptional buildings from the inside and gain a better understanding of the role each institution plays in the country's public life.
For the first time, the National Institute for Architectural Heritage (INPA) is organising a festival dedicated to architectural heritage in all its forms. The festival will take place from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October at Bourglinster Castle. Open to everyone, it will feature three days dedicated to discovering, passing on and promoting Luxembourg's built heritage.
Schoolchildren, teachers and the general public will be able to discover the diversity of Luxembourg's feudal and fortified, industrial, religious and landscape, rural and urban heritage, as well as the INPA's scientific work and its missions in the areas of protection, conservation and promotion.
In a friendly atmosphere, the programme will combine educational activities, workshops, guided tours, presentations, concerts and discussions.
