On the morning of Tuesday 4 June 2024, a press conference presenting the programme of this year’s Fête de la Musique, was held at De Gudde Wëllen, a live music venue in Luxembourg-Grund.

The programme presentation was held in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister for Culture, Eric Thill. The minister noted that this event is significant as it is the “biggest cultural manifestation bringing local musicians together”. Furthermore, he stressed that the Fête de la Musique is free of charge, which he named as one of his main political priorities – making culture available to all. The Asbl Fête de la Musique has organised this event for over three decades, he added.

The event organisers emphasised that all Fête de la Musique events cannot take place on the same day due to the rich and varied programmes. This year, 23 municipalities will participate, organising various concerts and events from the north (Bourscheid) to the south (Rumelange) and from the east to the west (Wellenstein, returning after a hiatus). The musical events will take place from Friday 14 to Friday 21 June 2024. The event launch will take place at the top of the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg funicular at 08:00. Passersby will be able to enjoy jazz music by Saxitude, a Luxembourg-based saxophone quartet, and have coffee and croissants offered by Luxembourg’s railway network, the CFL.

This year, cafés will participate more prominently in Luxembourg City’s musical offer, with Rock Solid, Holy Ghost, Rocas, De Gudde Wëllen, Beim Renert (a new addition this year) and Konrad offering various musical performances on the occasion of this large-scale music festival. Mirador will have four stages this year. In addition, also in Luxembourg City, the International School Michel Lucius and CID Fraen an Gender will put on musical performances on 14 June from 14:00. On Saturday 15 June, a big concert named “Conservatoire Goes City” will take place, whilst on Sunday 16 June, the UGDA music schools will perform on two stages, having nine concerts planned.

Furthermore, in Bridel-Kopstal, the programme at Rue Gerden and Eglise de Bridel will showcase hip-hop, pop and folk musicians. Fonds du Kirchberg will put on various musical performances as well at the Place de l’Europe on Thursday 20 June: the European Institutions’ music club and DJs, including a swing music show.

In Dudelange, in the south of Luxembourg, there will be a multitude of concerts, around 60 on Saturday 15 June – with headliners ClockClock, an electro-pop band from Mannheim and German singer-songwriter Michael Schulte. Child-friendly music events are also on the agenda, with various acts for all ages.

In Mamer, in the centre of Luxembourg, 20 concerts will take place over three days, covering various genres such as Big Band, pop, jazz, folk, Latin and more. Ettelbruck, for its part, will organise performances together with CAPE, on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 June across three locations.

This year, the National Youth Service (Service national de la jeunesse - SNJ) grant was offered to two special projects, namely the ASTI, a non-profit organisation supporting migrant workers in Luxembourg and the Chateau de Bourscheid events.

The ASTI will put on musical performances for local youth at the Parc Laval in Dommeldange with various youth groups from nearby, and a dance performance by the children at the Kannernascht child-minding service. An open mic is also on the agenda for this day, set to take place on Tuesday 18 June from 12:00 to 18:00 in Luxembourg-Eich. Local groups will offer catering on the day.

The Château de Bourscheid has a jazz music programme planned for Friday 21 June, which is set to end “very late” according to the organisers.

Back after a break, Wellenstein will be participating this year once more with “Miseler Museksfrenn” with blues, rock, pop and alternative acts on the agenda (traditionally ending on rock music performances). Two afternoons of music are scheduled on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June at Op der Baach. Schuttrange is also back this year after a five-year hiatus with various performances on Sunday 16 June at the campus “An der Dällt” in Munsbach.

New stages this year will be set up in Rumelange, Kockelscheuer and Bissen. This year, the nature conservation NGO, natur&ëmwelt, proposed to invite young artists to the Haus vun der Natur in Kockelscheuer (and will also organise an open mic) on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June.

Rumelange will offer a 100% Luxembourgish lineup with soul, jazz, pop and more on Thursday 20 June forming part of celebrations ahead of the National Day. Another new stage this year for the Fête de la Musique will be in Bissen (Bis-Scène) at Am Frounert, on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 June.
