On Friday 31 May 2024, the Casino2000 in Mondorf-les-Bains inaugurated its new "Offside Bar & Games" space in the casino.
Talking with Guido Berghmans, Director at Casino2000, he confirmed that the underground space is aimed at the younger market. He explained that, until around 25 years ago in the 1980s and 1990s, it was home to the famous Bistro Bonne Chance which was open daily until 05:00, but had been shut since then.
It now has a full bar with numerous alcoves and small tables occupying 145 m2 of space, with a number of wall-mounted televisions, allowing for both music events and sports viewing, with a bar menu offering burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, nachos and croques-monsieur, as well as dishes of chicken curry / crostini, also cake. It operates as a cash-free zone.
At the other end from the bar is a large dedicated gaming area, with a higher ceiling, including slot machines, blackjack and roulette, as well as another bar. Also, a dedicated DJ booth has been incorporated into the refurbishment.
The Offside Bar & Games is open for gaming from 10:00 daily, with the bar open on Fridays and Saturdays from 21:00, as well as for specific televised sports events.
The inauguration / opening was attended by the mayors of Mondorf-les-Bains as well as neighbouring municipalities, members of the board and invited guests.
During the formal part of the opening, Guido Berghmans said that they had originally planned to open this new venue in 2020; however, with the advent of the pandemic, they decided to prioritise other projects instead. He thanked the various suppliers and confirmed that the new venue is spread over 330m2 and includes seven National Lottery terminals, following some 20 years of talking about doing so. This is part of the five-year plan for the renovation covering a total floor area of almost 2,500 m2.
Steve Reckel, Mayor or Mondorf-les-Bains, congratulated the Casino2000 team for realising the project; he also referenced the revenues from the casino for the municipality last year being the highest on record.
