Intercultural Sports Day to be Held at Cessage

On Sunday 18 June 2023, Luxembourg City will organise the "Rencontres sans frontières" (meetings without borders), an intercultural day offering sports and activities which will take place from 10:00 to 19:00 at the Boy Konen sports complex in Luxembourg-Cessange.

The programme will feature football and beach volleyball tournaments, cycling activities at Bike Park Boy Konen and a friendly intercultural party combining music, dance, games and entertainment for the whole family.

This day, organised in collaboration with the committee for liaison of foreign associations (Comité de Liaison des Associations d'Etrangers - CLAE), emphasises sport and intercultural exchanges and reflects the City's desire to promote the integration of the multiple nationalities present on its territory through sport and culture. The Grand Duchy’s capital currently has more than 71% of citizens of foreign origin and 167 different nationalities.

The 2023 edition of “Rencontres sans frontières” will introduce a women-only football tournament. Teams must consist of nine players, including six players, a goalkeeper and two reserve players. In order to promote the mixing of cultures, each team will include a maximum of four players of the same nationality. Thus, this intercultural tournament offers a unique opportunity to come together with other women who share the same passion for sport.

In addition, the traditional mixed-team football tournaments will also be played with teams made up of nine players and a maximum of four players of the same nationality.

The matches will last between ten and 20 minutes; the exact duration will be determined the same day after registration closes. Teams of less than nine players will be supplemented by individual registrations. Several tournaments will be played in different age categories: from six to eight years old, from nine to eleven years old, from twelve to fourteen years old, from fifteen to seventeen years old and eighteen and older.

The beach volleyball tournament is open to men, women and young people from the age of thirteen. The teams will be composed of five players including four on the field and one reserve. Each team will consist of a maximum of three players of the same nationality. Teams of less than five players will be supplemented by individual registrations.

Many cycling activities are also planned from 12:00 at Bike Park Boy Konen, namely: Table-Line, Enduro-Track, North-Shore, Pumptrack and BMX-Track courses. Registration will be done the same day from 11:00. Bicycles will be made available to participants within the limits of available stock. The minimum age for participation is ten years old, but the activities are open for all ages.

Throughout the day, various activities will be offered to children and adults: sports workshops and sports demonstrations, music and dances from the communities present, activities for children and more. In addition, numerous food stands will allow spectators and participants to discover the specialties of different countries.

Registration is open until 18 June 2023 and participation is free.
