The Water Management Authority of Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development has announced the opening of the 2023 swimming season in the Grand Duchy.

The following surface waters are open for swimming between 1 May and 30 September 2023:

  • the two lakes of Weiswampach (upper lake and lower lake) in the municipality of Weiswampach;
  • Upper Sûre Lake in the bordering municipalities of Boulaide, Esch-sur-Sûre and Lac de la Haute-Sûre;
  • the Remerschen pond (pond reserved for swimming) in the municipality of Schengen;
  • the Echternach lake, a designated swimming area (Adventure Island), in the town of Echternach (opening scheduled for 26 May 2023).

The Water Management Authority recalled that during the swimming season, the microbiological quality of the water is monitored at various surveillance points. The quality of the water currently looks as follows:

  • Weiswampach lakes (zones 1-4): excellent;
  • Upper Sûre Lake (Rommwiss, Liefrange, Burgfried, Fuussefeld, Insenborn, Lultzhausen): excellent;
  • Remerschen ponds (zone 1-3): excellent; (zone 4) good;
  • Echternach lake (designated swimming area): good.
