
The fifth edition of the City Nature Challenge in Luxembourg will take place from Friday 28 April to Monday 1 May 2023.
Launched in the United States in 2016, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has become an annual global community science event in which more than 400 cities across six continents simultaneously participate. The National Museum of Natural History (natur musée) coordinates the CNC in Luxembourg.
As part of this challenge, members of the Luxembourg public are invited to observe and submit photos of plants, animals and wild mushrooms using the free iNaturalist mobile application. On a global scale, the challenge will look at which region managed to collect the most data and record as much data as possible on wild biodiversity.
The National Museum of Natural History noted that this data will in turn help governing bodies make informed conservation decisions that enable human and natural communities to thrive.
Various events will take place in Luxembourg in the coming days as part of this challenge:
- IMS Luxembourg is organising a "Lunch & Learn" presentation on how companies can preserve biodiversity, on Friday 28 April 2023 at 12:15, followed by a one-hour guided walk to identify fauna and flora with a biodiversity expert from the National Museum of Natural History at 13:00. - Ramborn, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), Bee Together and Nature- & Geopark Mëllerdall are organising a CNC event at Ramborn Cider Haff in Born on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 April 2023, both days from 11:00 to 18:00.
