Luxembourg's Ministry of Consumer Protection has announced the launch of a quiz on the occasion of World Food Safety Day 2021.

The theme of this year's World Food Safety Day, held annually on 7 June, is "Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow”. In this context, the Luxembourg Government Commissariat for Quality, Fraud and Food Safety has created an online memory game. Members of the public are invited to participate and test their knowledge on food safety and the correct way to store and process food.

World Food Safety Day

Following a declaration by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 2018, World Food Safety Day has been held every year on 7 June. Its objective is to raise awareness of the prevention, detection and management of food risks and to encourage awareness-raising actions in these areas.

The World Health Organization (WHO), together with the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), facilitates the celebration of this international day, in collaboration with Member States and other competent bodies.

2021 Campaign

The 2021 campaign aims to highlight the immediate and long-term benefits of producing and consuming safe food for people, the planet and the economy.

From 7 to 20 June 2021, members of the Luxembourg public are invited to play a new online memory game aimed at testing their knowledge on certain aspects of food safety and the right way to store and process food. All the required information (and more) can be found on the food security portal: www.securite-alimentaire.lu. A total of ten prizes will be distributed to participants.

Conference for Professionals

In addition, the Government Commissariat for Quality, Fraud and Food Safety is organising an online conference for professionals on 7 June 2021 on Luxembourg's procedures for mandatory notification in the event of a recall / withdrawal of a dangerous product. In collaboration with ILNAS, which covers procedures related to non-food products, the Commissariat will inform professionals about the legislation in place and the obligations regarding recalls and withdrawals of dangerous products.
