Luxembourg-ville and the village of Nospelt came alive with the sound of "peckvillercher" bird whistles at yesterday's annual Emaischen Easter markets.

This very sunny Easter Monday saw hundreds of residents and visitors to the Grand Duchy gather in Nospelt in southern Luxembourg and around the Fish Market and Grand Ducal Palace in the capital to enjoy traditional food and crafts.

Children and adults alike were eager to purchase their own "peckvillercher", little ceramic bird whistles sold just once a year in Luxembourg. These little birds were traditionally exchanged between lovers but are now popular with anyone enjoying the Emaischen celebrations. As well as the traditional bird form, potters have now included all sorts of animals and tableware to their range of purchasable ceramics.

In addition, food and drink stalls served sausages and chips, crepes, churros, waffles and ice cream, whilst bands provided entertainment.
