As part of the festive Winterlights 2017 programme, organised by the Ville de Luxembourg, the capital is set to have a Christmas makeover in the coming weeks, from 22 November 2017 to January 2018.
Among the many upcoming festive activities in Luxembourg City, there will be the Luxembourg Light Festival from 15-17 December from 18:00-23:00, accompanied by City Light Promenade tours offered by the Luxembourg City Tourist Office. For pre-sale tickets, visit www.luxembourglightfestival.lu.
In addition to the Christmas markets at Place d’Armes and Place de la Constitution, the annual Solidarity Market will be open from 22 November to 23 December at Roude Pëtz and all proceeds will go to charity. The market will be open Monday-Sunday from 11:00-18:00. Other markets include the Saint Nicolas and Advent Market at Place de Paris, taking place from 22 November to 23 December 2017, Sunday-Thursday from 11:00-21:00 and Friday-Saturday from 11:00-22:00, as well as the Gourmet Market in Grund, open to the public from 1 to 23 December 2017 in the "Op der Schmëdd" car park. Shops in the area will offer regional culinary products and beverages. There will also be bi-weekly markets in different neighbourhoods in the city during the Winterlights season.
The LCTO has also planned the Saint Nicolas procession for 3 December 2017, when Saint Nick will pass through the streets of the capital surrounded by angels, snowmen and participants from different organisations in Luxembourg. As in previous years, volunteers from Cent Buttek will be supporting the procession.
Another event to mark in the calendar is the “Telethon” organised for 9 December by Lions Clubs District 113 Luxembourg against rare diseases. Concerts will take place from 10:00 to 17:00 at the Place de la Constitution market under the direction of Jang Linster, sponsor of Telethon 2017 and the Christmas market will also act as a promise centre in which volunteers will answer calls on their donation line: +352 46 36 37.
Other activities for young and old during the Winterlights 2017 include a wide range of concerts and musical entertainment across the capital, with more than 200 concerts planned for Place de la Constitution and Place d'Armes, as well as free midi concerts on 24 November ("Shadows and lights" by pianist Gregoire Baumberger) and 8 December ("Hesses Traum", poems by German writer Hermann Hesse". Moreover, Villa Vauban will transform into Villa Noël this December with a special festive programme featuring workshops, concerts and readings. Additionally, the VdL’s theatres and Rotondes have set up a special agenda for the 10th edition of "Chrëschtdeeg am Theater", featuring several performances.
