Luxembourg Poetry Slam Returns with 8th Edition

The Luxembourg Poetry Slam is back for an 8th edition, with the best slammers of the European scene returning to the Grand Duchy to compete on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 November at Prabbeli in Wiltz and Rotondes respectively.

At this year’s poetry slam, organised by the Institut Pierre Werner in collaboration with Rotondes and the Prabbeli Wiltz, Luxembourg will welcome Victoria Helene Bergemann, Germany’s vice-champion under 20, Lord Myke Jam, 2016 French champion, Mieze Medusa, pioneer of the Austrian slam poetry and Gaëlle Rauche who won the slam league of France in 2016. The first part of the evening will be provided by the Luxembourgish Geisskan Kollektiv.

Victoria Helene Bergemann ("VHB") was born in 1997 in a small town east of Hamburg. She is vice-champion of Germany in the under-20 category, defending champion of Schleswig-Holstein and triple finalist of the championship of Hamburg. In 2017, she organised a slam project in Georgia for the German Embassy. In addition, she has been a laureate on several occasions of the Federal Republic of Germany's "lyrix" competition for young poets and has performed on stages across Germany.

Lord Myke Jam, whose real name is Stéphane Faider, was born in 1977 in Abymes. His lyrics display a touch of madness, they mould silences and turn them into stories oscillating between fiction and reality.

Vienna-based slammer, rapper and author, Mieze Medusa is an established personality of the slam and German-language rap scene, who travels the world with her lyrics. Recent highlights include: Prague (book fair), Leipzig (book fair), Sprachsalz literature festival and literary trips to Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Shanghai.

Gaëlle Rauche discovers the slam in Reims before founding "Ateliers Slam.Com" with Laurent Etienne in 2011. Since then, the association has been travelling the roads of France doing poetry slams. Rauche won her first individual title in 2016 at the Coupe de France after winning several national and international team tournaments.

The first slam will be held on Friday 10 November from 20:00 at Prabbeli, 8, rue de la Montagne, Wiltz. Tickets cost €10 or €5 reduced. The next day on Saturday 11 November the slam will take place from 20:00 at Rotondes in Luxembourg-ville. Ticket prices start from €5. The slam will take place in German, French and Luxembourgish.
