Luxembourg's no.1 tennis player, Mandy Minella, yesterday lost her first match of this year's BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open, taking place from 12-20 October at Kockelscheuer.

The WTA 168th ranked 33-year-old from Esch-sur Alzette lost 7-6(7), 6-7(5), 6-7(6) against Czech opponent Denisa Allertova (WTA 247) in the three-hour match on Monday evening.

Monday's matches also saw Slovakian tennis player Viktoria Kuzmova (WTA 52) defeat US opponent Katie Volynets (WTA 389) 6-7(4), 7-6(1), 6-1, whilst Russia's Margarita Gasparyan (WTA 81) won 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 in her match against Swiss opponent Jil Teichmann (WTA 73). Similarly, Romania's Monica Niculescu (WTA 111) and Elena Gabriela Ruse (WTA 177) went head to head in the qualifiers yesterday, with the former winning 6-1, 6-1. 

Other match results for Monday include Tatjana Maria's (Germany; WTA 86) victory over Shelby Rogers (USA; WTA 219) and Kristyna Pliskova's (Czech Republic; WTA 70) win against Aliona Bolsova (Spain; WTA 104). In the qualifiers, Chloe Paquet (France; WTA 150) defeat Ysaline Bonaventure (Belgium; WTA 110), Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine; WTA 162) win against Stefanie Voegele (Switzerland; WTA 127), and Antonia Lottner (Germany; WTA 210) defeat Renata Voracova (Czech Republic; WTA 714).
