BGL BNP Paribas today announced at its press conference that Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova will be competing in this year's Luxembourg Open in Kockelscheuer.

Maria Sharapova, currently ranked 137 worldwide (WTA ranking), has been ranked world No. 1 in singles by the WTA five times, for a total of 21 weeks. The 32-year-old professional tennis player has won all the Grand Slams, including Roland-Garros twice and has won a total of 36 WTA titles. She also won silver at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Maria Sharapova confirmed her return to Luxembourg, having last played and won the doubles tournament in 2003, in a Facebook video posted earlier today.

The BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open will be taking place from 14-20 October 2019 in the Kockelscheuer.
