On Tuesday evening, the WTA Luxembourg Open committee announced the first player committed for the 2018 tennis tournament as WTA No. 6 seed and winner of the 2017 US Open, Sloane Stevens.
The American holder of 6 WTA titles will be making her 3rd appearance in Luxembourg (quarter-finalist in 2013, 1st round 2015).
The tournament will be held at CK Sportcenter Kockelscheuer from 13-20 October 2018. Qualifying will be held on the 13 and 14 October with the main draw starting on Monday 15 October.
This year's edition will hold a special tribute to tennis player Jana Novotna who sadly passed away from cancer on 19 November 2017. The 'IWTP Award', created last year and awarded to Romanian Monica Niculescu for fidelity to the tournament over many years, will be renamed as the 'Jana Novotna Award'. This year's award will be presented during the Player's Night to be hosted by Frauke Ludowig, a German journalist and actress.
