On Thursday at the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open tennis tournament in Kockelscheuer, local favourite Mandy Minella and playing partner Julie Colin were knocked out of the Women's Doubles championship second round.
Following on from her defeat in the singles championship on Wednesday, Luxembourg's Mandy Minella and France's Julie Colin pushed their opponents, 2nd seeded K. Bertens (NED) and J. Larsson (SWE) all the way, eventually succumbing in a 28-game final set marathon. They upset the form book by winning the first set before losing the second, setting up a semi-final prize to await the winners of the final set. Final score 4-6, 6-4, 15-13. The top 4 seeds in the doubles are now through to the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, the second seed in the Women's Singles, Serbia's Ana Ivanovic, was knocked out by Belgium's A. Van Uytvanck. In the singles, there are no seeds remaining in the top half of the draw, with just the 5th and 7th seeds left in the bottom half.
