The Luxembourg Anti-Doping Agency (ALAD) has published details of all checks made during the year 2013.
In all, 268 controls were initiated by ALAD, 99 during the Games of Small European Countries (JPPE). 106 controls were carried out in 2013 that focused on athletes licenced in Luxembourg. In addition, 6 controls were undertaked by foreign anti-doping organisations, at the request of ALAD on Luxembourg sathletes during periods abroad.
On the other hand, ALAD responded to 4 requests from foreign agencies that control their athletes, while they were in Luxembourg.
In 2013, two checks on foreign athletes have resulted in a positive outcome. The control of the Cypriot athlete, Christos Chatziangelidis, winner of the 100m at the JPPE, proved abnormal because of the presence of oxilofrine, registered as specified in section S.6 - Stimulants - on the list of World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) of substances and methods prohibited in competition. The Cyprus Anti-Doping for which disciplinary proceedings are still ongoing.
On the occasion of the European Masters Powerlifting Championships in July 2013 in Luxembourg, the analysis of the Czech athlete, Richard Kobr (ranked 7th in the category - 105 kg), resulting in an abnormal result due to the presence in a urine sample of stanozolol and methandienone, anabolic steroids, listed as prohibited substances and methods by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The competent judicial body the International Federation imposed a sanction of a period of two-year suspension and cancellation of all results since 12 July 2013.
The meeting also saw ALAD President for the past 5 years, Robert Schuler, hand over to Guy Colas who has been a member of ALAD since 2004. Guy Colas, a law graduate, is also a member of the Luxembourg Commission of Arbitration for Sport since its inception in 1994.
